The historic village at Old World Wisconsin is now a nostalgic holiday destination for its “Home for the Holidays” celebration. The town has undergone a perfect transformation to shine a light on Christmas traditions from the 1890s. It includes decorated historic shops and homes, demonstrations featuring Wisconsin’s early settlement history – and a horse-drawn sleigh bell wagon ride – so you don’t miss a moment of this special opportunity to travel back in time.

Listen to this story here:

And have you heard of Krampus?

The Alpine character’s folklore is brought back to life during surprise appearances around the village. You’ll know it’s him by the horns, fur coat, jingling bells, and a leather switch. It’s all meant to serve as a reminder to the kids — don’t get caught on the naughty list!

Old World Wisconsin is also reviving a beloved tradition.

Breakfast with Santa is back as part of the holiday festivities. Guest Services Manager Betsy Gasper says it will be the first time in more than ten years since this popular event has happened there. It will include a breakfast buffet, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a small gift for every child. And it is being hosted inside the restored Clausing Barn. The 1897 building is a beautiful octagon structure with wooden beams and rustic charm.

Did you know?

Old World Wisconsin is home to more than 60 restored historical buildings moved to the site from all around the state. It’s a hands-on place to learn about the Badgers State from the 1800s to now.

The entire site is closing briefly when the holiday season events wrap up. But a new Welcome Center is being built to welcome you back in the new year.

And it’s perfect timing, too. Old World Wisconsin will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026!

Old World Wisconsin is located near Eagle in Waukesha County. Find the holiday events calendar, a map, and more here.
